Brussels – The Boghossian Foundation, one of the most prestigious cultural centers of Europe, will open its doors to artists from Armenia beginning in 2019. Launched from the Villa Empain on October 17, 2018, the East-West Residency is a partnership of the arts foundation Creative Armenia, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia, and the Boghossian Foundation - which has operated the art deco architectural landmark since 2010 and has guided it to cultural prominence over almost decade of art exhibitions, concerts, and an exclusive residency program for pioneering artists.

“We are proud to be inaugurating this partnership,” said Louma Salamé, General director of the Boghossian Foundation. “The Villa’s doors have long been open to leading artists. Now Armenian artists too will have the opportunity to spend a term living, creating, and collaborating here at the Villa.”

Garin Hovannisian, the founding director of the arts foundation Creative Armenia, spoke of this unique time in Armenia’s history - a chance to bring Armenia’s hidden talent to the global stage. He also thanked European officials in attendance, including Mrs Alda Greoli, Minister of Culture of Federation Wallonie-Bruxelles, for their commitment to support Armenia’s cultural future.

Armenia’s own Minister of Culture Lilit Makunts was present to deliver the keynote remarks, calling attention to the importance of strengthening Armenia’s ties with the European Union. “Armenia’s talented artists, writers, and musicians have long been waiting for such a very special bridge,” she said. “And now we have it. And its name is the East-West Residency. This is the beginning of a long and powerful partnership.”
